Marquette Momentum: A first look inside the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center

April 25, 2019

A dedication ceremony Monday, April 29, marks the opening of the first phase of the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center, setting off a new era of research for Marquette University. The second facility in the university’s $600 million Campus Master Plan to open, the building provides dedicated space where Marquette faculty and partners from the health care industry can collaborate on cutting-edge research in elite athletic performance, human performance, rehabilitation, fitness data analytics and other related disciplines.

Located across the street from the Al McGuire Center, home to Marquette Athletics, the AHPRC houses a world-class strength and conditioning area, as well as long-needed locker rooms and support space for the lacrosse programs and golf team.

Learn more about the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center.

Get a glimpse inside the new building:

  • Crews put the final touches on the glassy exterior of the $24 million, 47,000-square-foot Athletic and Human Performance Research Center. Marquette broke ground for the facility on March 6, 2018.
  • For the six years since their inception as NCAA programs, the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams and their 90-plus student athletes had not had locker rooms. Today, both teams have locker rooms befitting a elite, high-major programs.
  • The main entryway features donor recognition wall to honor the benefactors who made the AHPRC possible.
  • The AHPRC is home to the men's and women's lacrosse teams.
  • The building's mostly glass curtain walls provide ample natural sunlight throughout much of the facility.
  • There is 5,400 square feet of dedicated research space for faculty across a wide variety of academic disciplines.
  • Spaces throughout the building were designed to reflect not only the Marquette brand, but also the unique personalities of the individual units within the facility.
  • The strength and conditioning space is open to all Marquette student-athletes. Researchers will also use the space for testing human performance.
  • The research space features labs with advanced diagnostic and analysis equipment.
  • Researchers will explore areas such as rehabilitation and challenges encountered by athletes with special needs. They will also work to develop new fitness technologies and advance the use of fitness data analytics as a tool for improved performance.
  • A film room for reviewing game footage seats about 75.
  • The AHPRC is also home to the men's golf team.
