Nearly 175 faculty, staff and students attended this spring’s Beyond Boundaries Campus Conversation on Monday, March 18. Based on audience feedback from the last Campus Conversation, this event focused on three of the six strategic plan themes: A Culture of Inclusion, Formation of Hearts and Minds, and Social Responsibility Through Community Engagement. The fall Beyond Boundaries Campus Conversation will focus on the remaining three themes.
The event began with an invocation from Rev. Nicky Santos, S.J., which included a moment of silence for the victims of the New Zealand Christchurch shooting, and asked for God to bless the Marquette community’s work to implement Beyond Boundaries and continue to fulfill our Catholic, Jesuit mission.
President Michael R. Lovell spoke about the momentum building with strategic plan implementation, and how the work our faculty, staff and students are doing every day is directly tied to Beyond Boundaries. Following President Lovell’s remarks, representatives from the A Culture of Inclusion, Formation of Hearts and Minds, and Social Responsibility Through Community Engagement themes did a deeper dive into specific tactics being implemented.
University Academic Senate Chair Dr. Michelle Mynlieff then moderated a panel with the theme leaders for A Culture of Inclusion, Formation of Hearts and Minds, and Social Responsibility Through Community Engagement, which focused on the intersections between the work of these three themes.
For the last 30 minutes, participants gathered to talk about topics of interest related to the three themes that were not featured in the presentations: Pursuit of Academic Excellence for Human Well-being, Research in Action and Sustainability of Valuable Resources.
