The Raynor Memorial Libraries, the Center for the Advancement of the Humanities and the Department of History will host a symposium celebrating the generous gift of Tom and Nancy Cannon. The Cannon Irish Studies Collection will be held on Tuesday, March 26, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the Raynor Memorial Libraries, Beaumier Suites.
Professor Pádraig Ó Riain of the National University of Ireland (Cork) has described this collection as “the finest Irish studies library in private hands outside of Ireland.” The Cannon Irish Studies Collection enhances the library’s holdings in Irish political, social and ecclesiastical history, as well as in Irish literature. The collection will benefit the university’s faculty, students and visitors for years to come.
The symposium’s speakers include:
- Professor Micheál Ó Siochrú from Trinity College in Dublin
- Collection donor Tom Cannon
- Fr. Michael Maher, S.J.
- Dr. Timothy McMahon of the History Department at Marquette
The program will conclude with a reception and display of notable items from the collection. This event is free and open to the public; RSVP is requested. Learn more and RSVP online.
