Men’s and women’s basketball teams prepare for NCAA tournament; monitor university communications for team send-off celebrations

February 28, 2019

Marquette men’s and women’s basketball teams are ending the season strong as both teams are ranked in the top 25 nationally.

Both teams are also projected to receive high seeds in the Big East tournament and the NCAA tournament. Even with spring break approaching, campus is buzzing with the excitement about its two teams and their successful seasons thus far.

In New York, there will be a series of fan events happening for the Big East Tournament starting on Wednesday, March 13, through Saturday, March 16.

Events include:

  • Pre- and Post-game receptions and team sendoffs
  • CIRCLES networking event, featuring a panel discussion with former basketball standout Steve Novak. Students can register at a discounted rate of $20 for CIRCLES.
  • Lenten Lunch and Reflection

More information and registration is online.

Text “MUinNYC” to 313131 to opt in to text alerts about Marquette events during the tournament.

When students return to campus after spring break, the university hopes to have two Big East Championships as the teams prepare for the NCAA tournament, which kicks off on Tuesday, March 19. “Selection Sunday” for the men’s team is Sunday, March 17. The women’s show will be Monday, March 18.

The Marquette community is invited to a NCAA selection show party at the Union Sports Annex on Sunday, March 17. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the show begins at 5 p.m. Complimentary refreshments will be provided. Additionally, the Spirit Shop will extend its hours until 5 p.m. and sell t-shirts at the selection show party.

Following these shows, Marquette will know where and when each team will be playing. Athletics will be hosting send-off pep rallies at the Al McGuire Center for each team as they travel to their respective tournaments.  Show your support for the men’s and women’s teams by attending these celebrations.

Additional details will be shared once they become available via Marquette Today and the university’s various social media channels:
