Mission Week donation drive will support victims of human trafficking, homelessness; donate items through Jan. 30

Mission Week 2019 will be Feb. 4-10. Marquette will hold a donation drive the week prior, Jan. 22-30.

Milwaukee’s Fresh Start Learning, Inc. is seeking donations to support its project, “Purpose-Filled Purses,” which provides backpacks/purses filled with various toiletry items to those who have fallen victim to human trafficking, homelessness, hopelessness, drug addiction or domestic abuse. The university has a goal of donating at least 500 bags.

Join Nancy Yarbrough (the founder of Fresh Start) and President Michael R. Lovell and Amy Lovell (founders of SWIM) on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 11:30 a.m. in the AMU, Monaghan Ballroom to fill the donated bags with donated items.

Items needed:

  • New or gently used purses/backpacks 
  • Deodorant 
  • Shampoo 
  • Conditioner 
  • Soap 
  • Tampons and pads 
  • Body lotion 
  • Lip balm 
  • Hand sanitizer 
  • Fluffy socks 
  • Pocket tissues 

Travel size is preferred; fun size is accepted. Hotel items will not be accepted.

  • Residence hall lobbies  
  • Mission and Ministry (Zilber Hall 423) 
  • Campus Ministry (AMU 236)
  • Faber Center (Schroeder Complex 111) 
  • Law School, Office of Student Affairs (Eckstein Hall 238)
  • Department of Philosophy (Marquette Hall 115)

Monetary donations will also be accepted; money will be put toward purchasing $5-10 restaurant gift cards. Please send donations to Mission and Ministry (Zilber Hall 423).
