Gesu Church to begin yearlong celebration of 125th anniversary; events begin Jan. 27

The Church of the Gesu will begin a yearlong celebration of its founding 125 years ago.

The anniversary events will begin with a Mass on Sunday, Jan. 27, at 9 a.m. in the Church of the Gesu. Jim Flaherty, S.J., will preside over the service. There will be a special blessing of the 61 recently refurbished stained glass windows. Following the Mass, a reception for parishioners and visitors will take place in the lower church.

In the coming months, Gesu will host a series of special Masses that will be led by various former parish pastors. Additionally, there will be be service and outreach opportunities, organ concerts, church tours and stories shared about Gesu’s rich history.

On Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m., the great pipe organ will be showcased in a lecture and demonstration by organist Dean Rosko, who also performs as the organist at Milwaukee Brewer games.

The 125th anniversary year will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 3, with a 9 a.m. Mass led by the Most Reverend Jerome Listecki, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
