Dr. J P Leary, associate professor of First Nations studies, history and humanities at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, will present a public lecture on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Raynor Memorial Libraries’ Beaumier Suites.
Dr. Leary will share the story of a groundbreaking Wisconsin educational statute that aims to redress racism and help Wisconsin Native communities live out their sovereignty unhindered. His talk will also feature a special opening and closing ceremony with Milwaukee’s Indian Community School Youth Drum and will finish with a book-signing and reception.
Dr. Leary (Cherokee/Delaware) is author of “The Story of Act 31: How Native History Came to Wisconsin Classrooms.” At the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, he is also member of the graduate faculty in the Professional Program in Education and faculty affiliate with the Education Center for First Nations Studies.
