Diane Foley to speak on campus Nov. 5, 7

October 31, 2018

Diane Foley, founder and president of the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, will visit Marquette University for the Center for Peacemaking’s Distinguished Peacemaker Series.

Foley will be on campus from Nov. 5 to Nov. 9 and will speak at two events in the series.

  • A screening of “Jim: The James Foley Story” will be held Monday, Nov. 5, in Cudahy Hall, Room 001 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Diane Foley and Tom Durkin, Jim’s longtime friend, will participate in a talk-back session following the film.
  • On Wednesday, Nov. 7, Foley will speak at the event, “Jim’s Legacy: Inspiring Moral Courage One Person at a Time,” in the Raynor Memorial Libraries Beaumier Suites BC from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. In her distinguished peacemaker address, Foley will share how Jim’s experience at Marquette shaped his values, the important role of journalists in creating awareness on human rights issues and Jim’s legacy of inspiring moral courage.

Diane Foley is the mother of conflict journalist and Marquette alumnus James “Jim” Foley. In 2012, Jim was kidnapped while on assignment as a reporter in Syria. He was murdered by Islamic State militants in 2014.

This event is sponsored by the Marquette University Center for Peacemaking and Diederich College of Communication. For more information, contact Parisa Shirazi.
