Markie Pasternak, Arts ’16, faced an unexpected loss at the end of her sophomore year. Markie had been known on campus as a remarkable representative of Marquette — highly involved, with a strong work ethic and a smile on her face.
Markie returned to campus after her world had been turned upside down. But Marquette leaders couldn’t bear witnessing Markie struggle through classes while facing a mountain of financial responsibility that no 20-year-old should have to climb. They came together knowing they had to do something. They worked the phones, connected with the financial aid office and sought a solution.
