Dr. Michael Cover, assistant professor of theology, was elected to full membership in the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas, or the Society for the Study of the New Testament, at the 73rd general meeting of the society, Aug. 7–10, in Athens, Greece.
Cover was nominated for membership by two members of the society, Dr. Gregory Sterling, dean of Yale Divinity School, and Dr. Andrei Orlov, professor of theology at Marquette.
Founded in 1938, SNTS is often recognized as the premiere society for the critical study of the New Testament in Europe. New Testament Studies, the SNTS journal, is published by Cambridge University Press.
Criteria for election include the demonstration of “evidence of a high standard of scholarship across more than one major topic or specialism related to the New Testament”— usually the equivalent of two books —and the recognition that members “have been making, and are expected to continue to make, a creative and constructive contribution to New Testament studies in an international forum.”
