Marquette names new director of the Office of Disability Services

August 20, 2018

Jack Bartelt has been named the director of the Office of Disability Services.  Bartelt, who earned his master’s degree in community counseling and his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Marquette, served as ODS’ interim director from January through July 2018. Prior to that, he began as a coordinator within the office, and moved to the role of assistant director in 2015.

Bartelt succeeds Heidi Potrykus, who served as ODS director from 2007 to 2018 and has taken a new part-time role in the office.

“I am so pleased to welcome Jack into the director role,” said Anne Deahl, associate vice provost for academic support programs and retention. “Jack brings enthusiasm, dedication, a thorough knowledge of the intricacies of the ADA and of student needs here at Marquette. He is and will be a strong advocate for the needs of our students with disabilities, and a dedicated partner to faculty as we collaborate to meet the needs of students in the classroom.”

“As a long-time member of the Marquette community, I’m honored to lead our accessibility efforts for an incredibly diverse student population,” Bartelt said. “I am energized daily by the interactions I have with students, staff and faculty as we develop creative solutions for removing barriers that may prevent people with disabilities from fully engaging with our programs and am privileged to lead an office in which the staff care so deeply about our mission.”
