The Opus College of Engineering’s Engineers in the Lead (E-Lead) program received the 2018 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education.
The Inspiring Programs in STEM Awards honor colleges and universities that encourage and assist students from underrepresented groups to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. E-Lead will be featured in the September 2018 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity.
E-Lead was selected based on efforts to inspire and encourage a new generation of young people to consider careers in STEM through mentoring, teaching, research, and successful programs and initiatives.
E-Lead offers students the opportunity to build on their technical skills and develop their capacity to lead people and teams. Through a curriculum rooted in the Jesuit tradition, E-Leaders progress through a three-year program focused on leading oneself, leading with others, and leading technology and innovation. Students apply in their sophomore year, earning a concentration in engineering leadership, which is noted on their transcript upon graduation.
