Dr. Michael McCarthy, assistant professor of sociology, has won a pair of awards for his book, Dismantling Solidarity: Capitalist Politics and American Pensions since the New Deal.
The book, published by Cornell University Press, 2017, was a winner of the Paul Sweezy Best Book Award from the American Sociological Association. The award “goes to the author(s) of the best book published in the past two years in the area of Marxist theory and research,” and is awarded through the Marxist Sociology section of the ASA.
In addition, the book won an Honorable Mention for the ASA’s Section on Labor and Labor Movements Distinguished Book Award.
McCarthy will attend ASA’s annual meeting this August to receive both awards.
