Dear Marquette community,
We, the members of the Marquette University Board of Trustees, want to reaffirm the board’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and civility at Marquette. The Board of Trustees discussed the issue at our recent meeting on May 2, and we pledge our continued support to commit the resources necessary to make our great university a more welcoming community for all.
In light of a recent incident of racist behavior on campus, we want to assure you that the Board of Trustees is not blind to the challenges that our society and Marquette face. Everyone at the university — this board included — must do more to evolve the campus culture so that we may truly live out our Catholic, Jesuit mission.
One of the key themes of our Beyond Boundaries strategic plan is A Culture of Inclusion. As articulated in Beyond Boundaries, Marquette is committed — with our support — to: better, more frequent communication on diversity issues; greater transparency around bias incident reports; and increased access to university leaders, including a semi-annual Presidential Forum on Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice.
We trustees are thankful for the students who spoke out over the past few weeks — your voices are vital to the work we as a board do to help move Marquette forward and ensure that our mission, vision, and values truly reflect who we are as an institution.
We hope that your final exams were successful, and wish you a safe and relaxing summer. We are ALL Marquette.
Sincerely,
Marquette University Board of Trustees

Patrick McGrath, S.J., Vice Chair
