The Office of International Education and the Department of History will host Dr. Heather Marie Stur, General Buford Blount Professor in military history at the University of Southern Mississippi, for a public lecture on Friday, April 27, at noon in the Eisenberg Room located in Sensenbrenner Hall.
Stur’s lecture, “Saigon’s War: Political Activism and The Fight for Vietnam,” will explore Saigon’s dynamic political scene during the Vietnam War. Vietnamese student activists, Catholic priests, lawyers, politicians, and diplomats marched in the streets, wrote letters to local newspapers, and connected with international allies to express their desires for Vietnam’s future. She will discuss how these voices and perspectives have not been fully heard in the usual Vietnam War narratives, but how they reveal the diversity of political perspectives that existed in South Vietnam during the war.
