Faculty promotions announced

April 19, 2018

Marquette University has promoted 14 faculty members to professor, associate professor with tenure or awarded tenure, effective for the fall 2018 semester. Additionally, thirteen full-time participating faculty members were promoted to clinical professor, adjunct associate professor, clinical associate professor, associate professor of practice, visiting associate professor or associate librarian, and 24 faculty members were conferred with emerita/emeritus status. 

Promoted to professor are: Dr. Sarah Feldner, Communication Studies; Dr. Andrew Kunz, Physics; Dr. Marcus Plested, Theology; and Dr. Michael Schlappi, Biological Sciences. 

Promoted to associate professor with tenure are: Dr. Gerard Canavan, English; Dr. Amanda Godbee, English; Dr. Jill Guttormson, Nursing; Dr. Kristoff Kipp, Physical Therapy/Exercise Science; Dr. Brooke Mayer, Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering; Dr. Andrew Meyer, Economics; and Dr. Karen Robinson, Nursing. 

Awarded tenure are: Dr. George Cashman, Finance; Dr. Arndt Guentsch, Dental Surgical Science; and Dr. Lobat Tayebi, Developmental Science. 

Full-time participating faculty members promoted to clinical professor are: Dr. Gay Derderian, General Dental Sciences; and Dr. Jadwiga Hjertstedt, Dental Clinical Services. 

Promoted to adjunct associate professor are: Dr. Susan Giaimo, Department of Political Science; and Dr. Karen Hoffman, Department of Political Science. 

Full-time participating faculty members promoted to clinical associate professor are: Dr. Ayman Ahmed, General Dental Sciences; Dr. Mary Carlson, Educational Policy and Leadership; Mr. Michael Danduran, Physical Therapy/Exercise Science; Dr. Christopher Dix, General Dental Sciences; Ms. Jacqueline Podewills, Speech Pathology and Audiology; and Ms. Santina Puglisi-Creegan, Speech Pathology and Audiology. 

Ms. Katherine Blank was promoted to associate librarian. 

Dr. Douglas Fisher, Management, was promoted to associate professor of practice. 

Dr. William Hirsch, Physics, was promoted to visiting associate professor. 

Promoted to professor emeritus/emerita are: Ms. Alison Barnes, Law; Dr. Ruth Ann Belknap, Nursing; Dr. Bonnie Brennen, Journalism; Dr. James Buchanan, Biological Sciences; Dr. Abdur Chowdhury, Economics; Dr. Mark Eppli, Finance; Dr. Robert Fox, Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology; Mr. Michael McChrystal, Law; Dr. Stephen Merrill, Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science; Dr. Lawrence Pan, Physical Therapy; and Dr. Jack Winters, Biomedical Engineering.   

Promoted to associate professor emeritus/emerita are: Dr. Michel Barnes, Theology; Dr. Subhash Bhatnagar, Speech Pathology & Audiology; Dr. Joseph Collins, Physics; Dr. James Crovetti, Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering; Dr. Alexander Drakopoulos, Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering; Dr. Mark Nagurka, Mechanical Engineering; Dr. Gregory Rajala, Biomedical Sciences; Dr. James Rice, Mechanical Engineering;  Dr. Norman Sullivan, Social and Cultural Sciences; Dr. Margaret Sebern, Nursing; Dr. Barbara Silver-Thorn, Biomedical Engineering; and Dr. Wanda Zemler-Cizewski, Theology. 

Ms. Patricia Berge, Library, was also approved for emerita librarian.  

The emerita/emeritus ranking takes effect upon retirement.
