18th Annual Diversity Gala is May 5

March 26, 2018

The Graduate Students in the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology will host the 18th Annual Diversity Gala on Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m. in the AMU Monaghan Ballrooms.

The Graduate Student Organization in the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology hosts an annual Diversity Gala to raise funds for a Diversity Scholarship. The aim of this scholarship is to foster an academic, professional, and social environment that embraces diversity. It also encourages enrollment of persons with diverse backgrounds and promotes leadership among persons in the fields of counseling and counseling psychology.

Tickets for GSO Members and their guest(s) are $20. Tickets for non-GSO Members and their guest(s) are $30. Tickets will be available at the door at a $5 increase.

The evening includes a keynote address from Eva Martinez Powless, director of intercultural engagement, as well as a silent auction. Your registration for the gala includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, a drink ticket and a cash bar.

Powless was a first-generation student who attended middle and high school in Crystal City, Texas. She migrated to the U.S. from Mexico at the age of twelve and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Community Development & Leadership at Alverno College and Master’s in Public Service and Leadership at Marquette University. Powless is currently a Ph.D. student in the Interdisciplinary Higher Education and Leadership Program at Marquette University.

Registration is available online. With any questions contact GSO co-chair’s Katrina Kiefer or Harshita Desai.
