University to construct new surface parking lot west of the current Lot F

February 19, 2018

This spring, Marquette will begin construction on a new surface lot immediately west of the former Lot F.  As the university will soon begin construction of the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center, the former Lot F (located on 12th Street north of Zilber Hall, across from the Al McGuire Center) remains closed. University staff and faculty who parked in that lot will continue parking in Structure 2 (Wells Street Structure). Once completed, the new surface lot will be available to Gesu parishioners on weekends, and Parking Services will continue to share updates about parking designations in Marquette Today.

This summer, the university will also begin implementing its initial phase of the North Commons – an initiative outlined in the Master Plan to significantly enhance green space in the heart of campus (north of Wisconsin Avenue in between Schroeder Hall, the Dr. E. J. O’Brien Jesuit Residence and the Alumni Memorial Union).

President Michael R. Lovell and Fr. Jim Flaherty, S.J., pastor of Church of the Gesu, shared plans this weekend of a mutually agreeable plan for a parking collaboration between Marquette and Gesu.

In their joint letter, President Lovell and Fr. Flaherty said that “Gesu and Marquette have long enjoyed a relationship that goes far beyond our proximity to one another — it is a bond rooted in our Catholic, Jesuit tradition and one built on mutual respect. We want all of you to know that we are both committed to fostering this relationship to the benefit of both institutions. It is in this spirit that we have agreed to meet regularly and maintain an open dialogue with respect to important topics that mutually affect Marquette and the parish.

Further, as outlined in our shared services agreement, Gesu will continue to support Marquette’s campus ministry efforts and Marquette will provide Gesu a number of services, including information technology infrastructure and support, facilities services, and public safety.”
