Steve Rushin, Sports Illustrated feature writer and columnist and Marquette alumnus, will visit campus on Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the AMU Monaghan Ballrooms. He will be interviewed by his student mentees, John Hand and John Steppe.
In approximately 30 years at Sports Illustrated, Steve Rushin has covered nearly every major sporting event, and is the author of five nonfiction books and a novel. His most recent book, critically acclaimed Sting-Ray Afternoons, is a memoir of his 1970s childhood in Bloomington, Minn. In addition, he’s the 2006 National Sportswriter of the Year, gave the commencement address at Marquette University in 2007 where he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters for “his unique gift of documenting the human condition through his writing.”
He will discuss his days at Marquette, covering the world’s elite events and athletes for SI, life and times growing up in the 70s, and raising a family with his wife Rebecca Lobo, a 2017 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee.
