The Center for Cyber Security Awareness and Cyber Defense wants to pass along a message from the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) about being #CyberAware. NCSA produced a “family-friendly newsletter” to help families be Cyber Aware. Tips from the alliance include learning about online privacy, cyber threats facing kids, and problems with auto-filling your password on websites. These are all good measures to think about in our online-lives.
Another recent development to explore is the widely publicized campaign on the “Truth about Tech.” The duo that created the campaign includes the leader behind Common Sense Media, which sponsors the Device-Free-Dinner and a former ethicist from Google whose TED talk about tech companies controlling billions of minds has been quite popular.
Our advice: Use tech wisely in your online-life; teach our students if you are creating a product be aware of potential risks to the user; help your family to be #CyberAwre.
All these issues will be discussed at the Ethics of Big Data Symposium on Friday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to noon. Registration for the event will open soon. More information can be found online.
