The Marquette University Center for Cyber Security Awareness and Cyber Defense is partnering with the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau to provide workshops for the members of the BBB to understand the simple steps and process of adopting the NIST framework. The theme for week two of National Cyber Security Awareness Month is “Cybersecurity in the Workplace is Everyone’s Business.”
Events include:
- Cyber Security for Small Businesses will take place Thursday, Oct. 19, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in AMU 227. The event will feature a BBB Serving Wisconsin exclusive presentation and is open to the public.
- Colloquium on Cyber Security Awareness will take place Friday, Oct. 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in AMU 163, and is open to the public.
- Workshop on Cyber Security Preparedness will take place Thursday, Oct. 26, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in AMU 252, and will feature a BBB Accredited Business workshop. Space for this event is limited.
At the heart of the business strategy recommended by the National Cyber Security Alliance is the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. It provides a common language for understanding, managing and expressing cybersecurity and can help businesses identify and prioritize their cybersecurity actions and manage cyber risk. The framework has the following steps:
- Identify
- Protect
- Detect
- Respond
- Recover
