The Haggerty Museum of Art has been awarded $146,404 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ new Community Catalyst Initiative to support WaterMarks: An Atlas of Water and the City of Milwaukee.
The Community Catalyst Initiative funds support the development of museum and library collaborative approaches that bring positive community change.
WaterMarks invites Milwaukee community members to join the Haggerty Museum of Art, Marquette University, the artist Mary Miss and the City as Living Laboratory in creating a collective vision for environmental sustainability by exploring and understanding the water systems that support life. The physical manifestation of WaterMarks will be an urban-scaled atlas of the sculptural markers that call out Milwaukee’s “water story.”
The development of WaterMarks was supported with Marquette University Strategic Innovation Funds awarded during the 2016-17 academic year.
