A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Church of the Gesu to commemorate the role of the Catholic Church in the 1967 struggle for civil rights and to recommit to the continuing struggle in 2017. Bishop Jeffrey Haines will preside and Father Bryan Massingale will preach.
Additionally, there will be a panel discussion on Friday, July 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Francis Parish gym located at 1916 N. 4th Street. Panelists include Lois Quinn, James Causey, and Father Bryan Massingale and will discuss the 50 years since 1967, the present of state of civil rights in Milwaukee, and what direction is needed for the future.
Both events are free and open to the public.
