The past academic year marked 100 years of Marquette’s Student Media. To cap off their 100th year, Student Media was honored with three national Mark of Excellence awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. The group was nominated in three different genres; newspaper, magazine and television.

This year the Marquette Journal, featured a series of that stories that raised awareness for suicide and mental health issues.
“To be honored as among the best in the country shows that our students do journalism that matters,” said Mark Zoromski, director of student media and journalism professor. “With the press under constant attack these days, excellence in journalism is more important than ever to our democracy. These awards show that future of journalism is in good hands with our students.”
The national winners will be honored at the SPJ Excellence in Journalism conference this September in Anaheim, Cali.
