Marquette University’s Office of International Education has released a new video titled “You are welcome here,” highlighting that Marquette is currently home to more than 700 international students from around the world.
“This video and message is particularly timely, given the continued changes in our immigration policies as well as the latest executive order,” said Provost Dan Myers. The executive order issued today prohibits travel to the United States for those without a valid visa from six designated Muslim majority countries. “Our Catholic, Jesuit mission calls for us to be inclusive of community members from all backgrounds, and that includes our many Muslim students who come from these countries and the region.”
More information can be found on the Department of Homeland Security website.
Marquette’s leaders have shared numerous messages calling for the community to come together. In late January, President Lovell and other senior leaders said in a message to campus that they “stand with our international students and any other student whose family is impacted by this evolving situation.” Provost Myers and Dr. Xavier Cole have also shared important recent updates regarding undocumented students.
