A note from Marquette Vice President and Director of Athletics Bill Scholl and Marquette Women’s Basketball Head Coach Carolyn Kieger

March 8, 2017

Dear Marquette Community,

Thank you from all of us within the athletics department and our women’s basketball program for being such tremendous supporters of the Big East Women’s Basketball Tournament we just hosted. You played an integral role in helping us win the championship last night. Marquette had never hosted the Big East Tournament and had not won the title, but these two milestones were achieved over the past five days.

Specifically to those members of our community that attended our games in the Al McGuire Center, a very sincere thank you is sent your way. We issued you a challenge to support our women¹s basketball team in person and thousands of our fans, faculty, staff and students did so in a major way during our three games.

Here at Marquette, we often hear about the family-type environment we like to create and how we are challenged to “Be The Difference” in how we live our lives. Well, the Marquette Family showed up to the Al and truly made an impactful difference in all of our games during the tournament.

It is too soon to know if the Big East will bring its women¹s basketball tournament back to Milwaukee any time soon. However, a very memorable tournament was created over the past week and many people in our community had a helping hand in making it as successful as it was.

Thank you for all you did in reminding our guests from other schools what a special and unique place Milwaukee and Marquette are to live and work.

We could not have accomplished this incredible feat without you.

We are Big East Champs! We are Marquette!

Bill Scholl and Carolyn Kieger
