Inaugural Leadership and Brotherhood Summit for Young Men of Color will be Nov. 29

November 26, 2018

Marquette will host the inaugural Leadership and Brotherhood Summit for Young Men of Color will take place on Thursday, Nov. 29.

The event is in collaboration with the Milwaukee Public School’s Department of Black and Latino Male Achievement and aims to engage in a community-wide effort to support the leadership development, enhance the academic success and affirm the cultural identity development and dignity of Black, Latino and First Nations male youth of the greater Milwaukee region and Southeast Wisconsin.

During the event, approximately 250 young men from Milwaukee high schools will explore Marquette’s campus community and attend sessions under the theme of “Brothers United for Change.” Through various panels, workshops, lectures and guided tours, participants will learn how they can become change agents in the community — and country — through personal development, servant leadership and civic engagement.

For more information about LAB, contact one of the co-chairs of this initiative: Dr. Robert Smith, director of the Center for Urban Research, Teaching, and Outreach, or Jacki Black, associate director for Hispanic initiatives.
