Marquette’s College of Health Sciences receives $1.5 million gift

April 27, 2017

Marquette University’s College of Health Sciences today announced that it has received a $1.5 million gift from the estate of Capt. John A. Orlandini.

Orlandini, a 1960 graduate of Marquette, suffered a life-changing injury during his time in the Navy. He pledged an estate gift to the physical therapy program to help students who will provide hands-on care to patients in need, especially those with spinal cord injuries. Orlandini passed away in June 2016.

“John’s generous gift will allow us to give aid and support to doctoral students who traditionally would not receive aid for their studies,” said Dr. William E. Cullinan, dean of the College of Health Sciences and director of the Integrative Neuroscience Research Center. “He was a great friend to the college and the program for many years, and we’re happy to help continue his legacy of generosity.”

“Overcoming significant odds against him, John thrived throughout his professional career by serving others,” said Marquette President Michael R. Lovell. “John’s dedication to service will live on through his gift, and we’re so grateful for his pride and faith in his alma mater.”
