The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion recently announced Dr. Jean Grow, professor of strategic communication in the Diederich College of Communication, and Dr. Lucas Torres, associate professor of psychology in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, have been selected for the Faculty Diversity Fellowship Program. Their appointments will be for two years.
The Faculty Diversity Fellowship is funded by the Provost Initiatives. The fellowship provides support for faculty to explore their own ideas that have the potential to lead to new initiatives that will advance diversity, equity and inclusion at Marquette. Grow and Torres exhibit potential for highly collegial and institution-wide impact on further integrating the ideas of Marquette faculty into university priorities on cultivating a diverse and inclusive environment for learning and scholarship, broadening access for students, and engaging in communities beyond the boundaries of the university.
Grow will work on several initiatives that include strengthening the relationship between the Marquette faculty and Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, and improving OIDI strategic communication. She will also pursue several curriculum ideas in her area. Torres will develop initiatives that seek to “broaden access to underrepresented students and to strengthen academic-community partnerships via faculty-student research projects.”
Both Grow and Torres will begin their fellowship with OIDI in fall 2016.
