Throughout the month of October, university officials will present and gather feedback from the Marquette community on the possibility of operating the Department of Public Safety as a police department. The presentations and forums will be led by Paul Mascari, chief and director for the Department of Public Safety, Dr. L. Christopher Miller, vice president for Student Affairs, and Doug Smith, associate general counsel. Open forums will be held on:
- Wednesday, Oct. 22, noon to 1 p.m. in AMU 163, for faculty and staff
- Monday, Oct. 27, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in AMU Monaghan Ballrooms, for students hosted by MUSG
Feedback and considerations raised at the forums and through the online form will be used to make a recommendation to Marquette President Michael R. Lovell, who will make the final decision regarding commissioning.
Most of the time scheduled for the forums will be used to answer questions and collect feedback from the campus community. The forums will begin with a brief presentation on the history of DPS and what changes to expect if a police department were created.
